PinkSlip Heartfelt Harmonies
Joan Friedenberg & Bill Bowen
A harmony-driven duo of Bill Bowen and Joan Friedenberg, PinkSlip distinguishes itself by unique arrangements and never using recorded tracks. PinkSlip can make use of guitars, keyboard, harmonica, six-string banjo, drum machine and various percussion instruments to create a rich full-band sound when needed for dancing. They devote hours devising clever and complex arrangements to make their two voices sound like more. But when covering Simon and Garfunkel, they maintain the simple, mellow sound of two folk singers and a guitar.
PinkSlip's repertoire contains Beatles, Peter Paul & Mary, Simon & Garfunkel, Dylan, Crosby Stills Nash and other 60's (late 50's - early 70's) close-harmony artists. PinkSlip has performed at Singer Island Marriotts, Delray's Sonoma Cafe, Palm Beach Gardens Tijuana Flats, Greenacres Arbor Oaks, White Hall-Boca, Delray's Colony Hotel, Boynton Beach Living Room, the Old Key Lime House, Lake Worth's Cottage, the Norton Museum of Art, Boynton Beach's Sunday in the Park, Congregation Beth Adam, the Lake Worth Cultural Stage, the Lake Worth Playhouse, and in private homes and clubhouses for listening, dancing, shows, private serenades, and sing-alongs. PinkSlip is now performing its 60's show, Bleecker Street and Beyond, which is available in 45-min., 90-min, and longer versions.
Bill Bowen (vocals, guitar, harmonica, six-string banjo): He's a veteran of several gigs in Palm Beach County and Florida Keys bars, with his solo acoustic versions of folk, classic rock, and Jimmy Buffett-style island music.
Joan Friedenberg (harmony arrangements, vocals, keyboard, guitar): With over 30 years experience performing in bands and choirs, her unerring harmonies have graced several area restaurants and community centers. Joan's keyboard accompaniment and vocal harmonies include numbers in English, Spanish, Yiddish, Hebrew, and Ladino.
Joan is a former linguistics professor and speaker on human rights issues. Bill is a former sportswriter and photojournalist. Both have moved on to their next careers, giving their former lives the pink slip.
PinkSlip is a pleasantly nostalgic musical journey through those halcyon days of the boomers' formative years.
